This black Mondo grass is a small grass-like plant of the lily family forming a tuft of curving leaves 350 in length x 5mm in width, at first bright green and glossy but soon turning and remaining dark purple black.
Loose racemes of lilac flowers appear through summer followed by dull blue fruit. This makes a striking edging plant.
It spreads slowly ideal for edging or growing in a pot It prefers semi shade the dark colour will not be achieved in full shade
