If you want an eveergreen plant to give your garden the Mediterranean, look but not worried about fruit production then El Greco fits the bill. This olive has attractive silvery green foliage and is great for the smaller garden as either a specimen tree or as a hedge as it does not grow more than 3 metres
Although naturally compact by pinching out the side growth at 2 to 3 leaf it can make a nice topiary plant for a pot on a patio
Prefers full sun with protection from harsh winds and the soil needs to be fertile but free draining.
Although El Greco is self-fertile and bears heavy crops in its native Greece in New Zealand it does not seem to fruit
